New CF accessories show benefit of dual slots
Posted Saturday,14 Dec 2003
Engineers have an inherent need to put as much functionality in as small a package as possible.  The artistry comes in determining the proper balance between them.  The various designs of pda's reflect the different priorities in pursuing that goal.

In a number of new pda designs, such as the Dell Axim X3 and most of the HP Ipaq series, manufacturers have chosen to reduce the size (primarily the thickness) of the pda at the expense of eliminating the once ubiquitous compact flash slot.

The introduction of the SDIO-capable Secure Digital slot and the integration of embedded Wi-Fi and Bluetooth have reduced much of the need for having dual slots.   But, there are still a great many more expansion devices available throught compact flash than secure digital.  And some consumers still want the kind of flexibility that the compact flash slot affords.

Fortunately, I got a chance to do a bit technological medicine myself.

Quebec consumer group attempting to sue Dell Canada over Axim prices!
Posted Monday, 12 MAY 2003
The Union des consommateurs is apparently attempting to sue Dell Canada after the Dell website erroneously listed the Dell Axim PDA's at prices less than a tank of gas in Montreal.  Dell shook up pda prices with its introduction of the Axim, but they are still not giving them away.

    Posted Wednesday, 25 FEB 2003
