Assigning applications to the buttons.
|
The Axim has four application buttons located on the lower front face and a fifth, recessed "record" button along the left hand side of the pda. Pressing
the buttons activates an assigned application. By default, the applications assigned to the buttons are:
Button 1 - Calendar
Button 2 - Contacts
Button 3 - Inbox
Button 4 - Home
Button 5 (Record) - Record
Pressing the button will cause the PocketPC OS to either start the associated application or jump to that particular screen if the application is already open.
Jumping to another application does not close the current application, rather the OS minimizes the current application, keeping it running in the background, unless the
amount of available memory becomes too low. The intent is that the user be able to jump between commonly used applications more quickly than if the individual
applications have to be launched anew each time.

To assign an application to a hardware button, simply select the button and then select the application in the button assignment drop down list below. The applications are listed
in alphabetical order.
Any registered application can be associated with a button, as well as a number of system command options such as scroll up, scroll down, activate the start menu drop down,
jump to the Today Screen (ie - minimizes all apps), and others. A button can also be disabled by selecting NONE from the drop down list. Other than NONE, no application or system command can
can be associated with more than one button.
Clicking the Restore Defaults selection will reassociate the buttons with default applications listed above. Note, any changes do not take effect until the ok button
in the top right corner or the up/down control tab at the bottom is clicked.
Pressing the up/down control tab brings up a second screen which allows the user to set the repeat rate and delay for the scrolling action associated with the Action button or jog dial.
The Action button is the center navigation button in the lower middle of the front face. The jog dial is about midway up on the lefthand side, above the record button and
below the secure digital slot.
As might be expected, the repeat delay controls how long the Action button or jog dial can be pressed before the scrolling action begins repeating.
The repeat rate controls how quickly the scrolling action repeats. Both values are set simply by moving the corresponding slider bar.
