Configuring input methods.

The transcriber is another character recognizer, but it does not have a designated input area.  Instead the user can write anywhere on the screen.  A trace of the stylus' strokes will appear as the user writes on the touchscreen.  The user need only pause a moment and the transcriber will attempt to convert the input.

There are a number of special strokes or gestures which give the user some in situ editing commands.  The transcriber icon is a hand holding a pen.   Clicking the transcriber icon, shows and hides a tool bar useful for tuning the transcriber to a particular user's handwriting, accessing correction tools, or bringing up the options screen.  As with the block and letter recognizers, clicking the question mark icon will bring up the help menu which describes the transcriber in more detail.

The options button will bring up the Transcriber: Options screen.  The screen has two tabs, General and Recognizer.

The Sound On checkbox on the General tab causes a short beep when the transcriber converts the user input.   If Show Intro is selected, the intro page will appear whenever the transcriber menu item is selected from the input popup.   The Color button and Width selector are used to set the Ink color and width of the stylus trace.

On the Recognizer tab, the Add Space After checkbox inserts a space after a converted word.  The Separate Letters Mode speeds up character recognition when the user does not run his letters together.  The tab also contains two slider controls.   One slider controls the balance between transcription speed and accuracy, while the other sets the length of the pause required to initiate the input conversion.
