Configuring input methods.
|
Pocket PC 2002 includes a Word Completion mechanism for speeding up data input. If Word Completion is active, then as the user
inputs characters, a small dialog will appear just above the input panel with a suggested word matching the spelling of the input entered up to
that point. By tapping the dialog, PocketPC will fill out the rest of the input with the suggested word.
|
|
The word suggested is determined by length and usage. Words which are used more often will pop up more frequently. Likewise,
words which the user selects for completion will also show up more often. The Word Completion algorithm learns which guesses are more
successful. Longer words will also pop-up as the word completion adds more value for inputting longer words than shorter ones.
Word completion is turned on or off using the Suggest Words checkbox. If word completion is turned on, the user can
set the number of letters to be entered before the word completion dialog pops up.
Number of words suggested is the number of words which appear in the popup dialog. The user can select one to four words to appear in the dialog.
Finally, the user can set the word completion tool to include automatically include a space after the completed word.
Word Completion is active for keyboard and block or letter recognizer input methods, but it does not work with the transcriber input method.

The Input Settings Options tab enables the user to set the recording mode and some additional writing properties.
The voice recording format drop down list is used to control the quality of the files created by the built-in voice
recorder. The selections list the sampling rate, block size, stereo or mono, and overall data rate. Generally,
the larger each of these values, the larger the overall file size and the better the quality of the recording.
The Default Zoom Levels for writing and typing are used to control the zoom in applications such as Pocket Word.
The other two checkboxes cause PocketPC to capitalize the first word of a sentence and automatically enable the windows
scrolling function when the input reaches the last line of the display.
